The present lighthouse was built in 1867 and was the first commissioned lighthouse along the Great Lakes. The former keeper's house is separate and serves as a private residence. The light at the top of the tower functions but is not an active aid to navigation. Every first Tuesday of the month from April through October 2023 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the lighthouse is open to visitors to climb its winding staircase to the observation platform for stunning views of Lake Erie.

The Bicentennial Tower

The Bicentennial Tower commemorates the 200th anniversary of the founding of the City of Erie and is easily one of Erie’s most recognizable attractions. Its top observation platform rises 138’ in the air, providing spectacular views of Presque Isle Bay, Lake Erie and the City. Free admission is offered on the first Tuesday of each month (excluding holidays, weather permitting).
